Scope and Contents

The collection of the Bowling Green, Ohio, "Potpourri Chapter" of the American Business Women's Association contains records from 1973 to 2000. The collection consists of procedure manuals, chapter bylaws, membership documents, minutes, conference material, committee material, scholarship information, financial reports, scrapbooks and newspaper clippings, newsletters, and photographs.

The minutes of the monthly meetings contain the most specific information about the chapter's activities, projects, and policies. These minutes are nearly complete for the time span of the chapter. Another valuable source for information is the monthly newsletter, The Kaleidoscope. The newsletter often contained a calendar of events, a review of the preceding meeting, and agendas for upcoming meetings. Issues are nearly complete between the years 1973 to 2000. Clippings from various local newspapers from 1973 to 2000 reflect the chapter's active role in community affairs as do the numerous scrapbooks and photograph collections. Other fairly complete series in the collection are membership and committee lists, and lists of scholarship recipients.

Biographical / Historical

The "Potpourri Chapter" of the American Business Women's Association was formed in Bowling Green, Ohio, on March 29, 1973, with the first meeting held on May 3, 1973. Included in the monthly meetings was a presentation by a guest speaker, and the opportunity for a chapter member to talk about their job responsibilities, future goals, and family concerns.

Fund raising was a major component of the chapter. The main fund raising event was the annual Antique Show and Sale held in March. Other projects included penny parties, Christmas auctions, raffles, and car washes. The proceeds from these events helped fund scholarships which the chapter awarded annually to women of Wood County and Henry County who were studying to enter the business world. As of June 1997, the chapter had given away $66,325.00 in scholarship assistance. Other activities included hosting and visiting ABWA conferences and publishing the monthly newsletter, The Kaleidoscope.
