Camp Upton L.I.
April 4, 1919
Dear Mother,

Arrived in New York in the
evening of April 4. Rode in the
Leviathan from Brest. I am feel-
ing good and I am fat and getting
fatter since landing in this count-
ry. All of us are well fed up
but we keep eating on any way
as nearly all have several monthsmonths'
pay on them. I had hopes of getting
out of here in a couple days, and I
thought I would telegraph when we
started for Camp Sherman, but I "geuss"guess
we will be here for a few days more
and so I am sending this rather
late missive.
I had a pretty good trip on the
way over. I didn't have as much
of that rolling feeling as before.
I read that the 332 had sailed.

You are "as Crossley says" probably
better read up than myself. There
is no censoring the reporters and
from the papers I have seen around
here they are pouring out lots of
stuff.
I got a bunch of mail the night
before leaving Brest. Fifteen letters
and two postal cards. There was
a bunch of good news in the
letters and Henry County Signal
detachments.
It is only a few more days till
I get out and I will say GoodBye
for to-daytoday.

Wendell.
I do not know whether I will get
to run into the big city. Tell Norma
I am bringing her a pair of shoes.
