Dear Father,

I am back on Y.M.C.AYoung Men's Christian Association stationary again, the first I have
had since we were in England. As I write this I am in the
shade of some bushes in the region that I think really entitles us
to the O.A.S.On Active Service you see in the corner of the envelope. We can hear the
artillery booming away all the time. Aeroplanes are thicker than
the birds. I had to part with my barracks bag a couple weeks ago.
That means that I parted with everything I had except what I carry
on my back. I think I will trim my pack down still further. Some
things that I considered necessary I have changed on. Julian Wheeler
and I are still to-gethertogether in the same squad, in the last arrangement.
He is the only one of our draftees that I know anything about.
We are both in good shape and leading the rough life in good
spirit. Be sure and notice my change in address. I will get stuff
from my old address but it will be slow. I saw Jake Beard
yesterday, the first time I had seen him since we crossed, but
I didn't get to talk to him. Well I will say "Good Bye"

Your son,
Wendell
