After the Kent State Shootings: Bowling Green State University's Reaction

Attached please find signatures of over half
of the Biology staff who support you and
other administrators in >dicisionsdecisions you have
made & those you will no doubt have
to make in the near future. I am certain
I can speak for those that did not have
the opportunity to sign the attached sheet in
the same manner.

This university must be kept open at
all costs. University policies concerning
outside speakers, expulsion of students (radicals), guns
for security force, violent demonstrations, etc must
be spelled out by the administration and enforced
without faculty approval. We must take

positive stands and not retreat! I am
confident we have internal support for
positive stands.

Please accept my thanks and those of the Vice Presidents for your
Department's statement of support in any emergency situation which may
arise. We greatly appreciate this gesture of good will and confidence.

As you know, our hope is to keep channels of communication open
so that any major decision may be a shared one because I have long ago
learned that events after the fact appear so different than those before the
fact.
