Director of Alumna Affairs
Dear Mr. Hoff:
Over the past few years I have made contributions, consistent
with means, to the Bowling Green Alumni Association.
This year, I will withhold my contribution until it becomes
evident whether the university officers and faculty are
administering the University or a minority of the student
population.
I do not want my contribution wasted on the "new university".
As such time the University excercises its intended purpose,
education, and ceases the operation of a play house for
social and academic curiosities you may expect my check.

Dear Mr. Young:
Thank you for sharing with me your letter to Mr. Hof. I not only
understand but share your concern regarding higher education though to a
much lesser degree your dismay with your own alma mater.
Before you reach hasty judgments, I would beseech you to, however,
adhere to the honored practices of your profession and get and assess all
relevant facts. One of the popular myths of our times is that the minority
of the students run a university. They simply have the ability to make
articulate the feelings of disenchantment and distrust in the hearts and minds
of many young people today.
As a matter of fact, I suspect our society is fortunate in having the
state universities act as a temporary buffer for social discontent which other-
wise might erupt in the streets of our cities and towns. In any event, these
issues are too complex for me to develop at length here. Suffice it to say,
however, that any gifts of the alumni are not going into the so-called New
University. The courses offered here carry no credit and most of the students
continue to carry a full load. This type of extracurricular activity, in the
minds of some, is not less frivolous than many of the activities of students
in more halcyon days.
Again, I appreciate your letter even though I recognize how difficult
it is to answer your very real and legitimate concerns.
