After the Kent State Shootings: Bowling Green State University's Reaction

After a rather lengthy telephone conversation with our Bill,
a sophmore at your university, the other evening, Mrs. Oudsema
suggested that this letter might be appropriate.

We are aware that Bowling GreenBowling Green State University is quiet; we are aware of the very
real effort being made to keep it that way. Without a lengthy
comment into the ills and the validity of action against same, we
believe that the climate of cure lies in orderly discussion,
evaluation and orderly action.

We compliment you and extend our strongest support to you and
your people and your students in what is a most outstandingly
good job.

Thank you for your very thoughtful letter. The confidence of you
and your wife is tremendously encouraging to me. I cannot tell you how
refreshing I find the openness and understanding which some of our parents
share in common with you. It is my personal belief that the University has
grown in stature these past few weeks and I can turn over to my successor,
Dr. Hollis A. Moore, an institution of great promise and vitality.
