Scope and Contents

This collection contains ship's records for vessels that served with the Coastwise Trading Company fleet from 1913-1983. This fleet carried oil for the Standard Oil, and later Amoco, Corporations. Records consist mainly of Captain's Logs and crew lists, while small numbers of other material such as Engine Room Log books are also present.

Vessel Histories

WILLIAM P. COWAN/AMOCO ILLINOIS:

The COWAN was built and launched in 1918 from the American Ship Building Company yard in Lorain, Ohio. The ship was renamed the AMOCO ILLINOIS in 1962. She spent her whole career sailing with the Standard Oil/Amoco Corporation until being laid up in 1980. The COWAN was scrapped in 1985.

RED CROWN/AMOCO INDIANA:

The RED CROWN was built by the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, in 1937. The ship was renamed the AMOCO INDIANA in 1962. The ship spent its whole career sailing with the Standard Oil/Amoco Corporation until being sold to the Medusa Cement Company in 1986.

RENOWN/BEAUMONT PARKS:

The RENOWN was built by the American Ship Building Company yard in Lorain, Ohio, in 1912. The ship was renamed the BEAUMONT PARKS in 1930. The ship served with the Standard Oil fleet until 1957, when it was sold to Cleveland Tankers, Inc.

Edward G. SEUBERT/AMOCO WISCONSIN:

The EDWARD G. SEUBERT was built by the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, in 1930. The ship was renamed the AMOCO WISCONSIN in 1962. The ship spent its whole career sailing with the Standard Oil/Amoco Corporation until being laid up in 1980. It was scrapped along with the AMOCO ILLINOIS in 1985.
