Introduction | The scrapbook, printed materials and photographic materials of the Mahla family originates in Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio and spans from 1873 to 1968. These materials provide a family history of the following families: Lowmiller, Neumann, Goebel, Mahla and Hughey. These records were purchased by Steve Charter at an estate auction and in turn donated to the CAC on December 3, 1986. Literary and property rights have been dedicated to the public and duplication is permitted for the purpose of preservation and scholarly research. The register was prepared by Kelly L. Sikora, in September 1987. |
Biographical Sketch | A brief genealogical sketch is provided below based on what family information could be pulled from the collection. George Neumann married Mary (House) Neumann and they had four children, Henry, Jacob, Peter and George W. Daniel and Louise Lowmiller, married on August 29, 1865 and had six children, Ima (Collier), Ada (Reed), Gilbert, Cora (McClellan), Laura Elizabeth (Neumann) and Emma Lowmiller. George W. Neumann married Laura Elizabeth Lowmiller and they had four children, Bessie Irene, George W., Martha Mildred, and Louise Elizabeth. Bessie Irene Neumann married Carl Goebel. Martha Mildred Neumann married Clarence Leroy Mahla on August 10, 1918 and they had two children, Curtis Arthur and Neumann Leroy. Louise Elizabeth Neumann married Charles Hughey on May 28, 1921 and they had one child, Edward Charles. |
Scope and Content | The focal point of the Mahla Family collection lies in photographs and photograph albums. These pictures include portraits, family and candid shots. Most of the photographs are identified and dated. The photograph albums on the other hand are dated but the photographs are not in a consecutive yearly order and they are also unidentified. A scrapbook which includes programs and ephemera, newspaper clippings of births, deaths, and marriages allows one to form a family history. It also assists in identifying more of the photographs. The scrapbook does have one drawback; it is not in a consecutive yearly order. Bucyrus High School publications also are included in this collection. These publications mainly include yearbooks. |
