| Introduction | Records of the Wallace Nutting Collector's Club include photocopies of correspondence, subject files, newsletters, articles, interviews, catalogs, and other printed material related to the artist Wallace Nutting and the activities of the Club. The records were donated to the Center for Archival Collections in February 1993 through the cooperation of Ann Coffman of Albany, NY, the collector of this material. No restrictions exist on the use of this collection. Duplication is permitted for the purposes of preservation and research. The register was prepared by Marilyn Levinson, Curator of Manuscripts in April 2004. |
| Agency History | The Wallace Nutting Collector's Club was established in 1973 as a means for collectors and other interested individuals in the United States and Canada to learn more about the artist, his work, to communicate with each other, and to organize events of interest to collectors of Nutting related material. Wallace Nutting (1861-1941) was an artist specializing in photographs, which he had hand-tinted, depicting New England scenery and colonial themed domestic situations. He also was involved in the study, collection, and reproduction of traditional American furniture of the colonial period, producing a multi-volume set, "Furniture Treasury" on the subject. Trained as a minister, he turned to art late in life when failing health curtailed his pastoral duties. |
| Scope and Content | The Wallace Nutting Collector's Club collection covers the period from 1973 until around 1996. Donated by a club member, it only represents a limited period in the life of the group, which is still active. The contents cover some of the typical club activities such as the exchange of information, independent research, personal contacts and convention gatherings. |
