Scope and Content | The collection of the Emanuel United Church of Christ consists of three record books dating from 1852 to 1949 and one minute book documenting the period from 1925 through 1992. The record books contain information concerning the baptisms, confirmations, marriages, and deaths of the church's members. Each volume also includes a portion of meeting minutes. Information contained in the first of these books, dating from 1852 through 1875, was primarily written in German until 1860. This first volume also includes the church's constitution, a record of the election of deacons, a record of monies collected for various purposes, and some brief documentation of the committee responsible for the erection of a church building. The second volume documents the period from 1875 to 1891. Information included within this volume consists of records of baptisms, confirmations, deaths, marriages, membership, and contributions. Minutes of meetings of the church's congregation and the elections of parish officers are also included within this second book. The third volume covers the period from 1917 to 1949 and begins with a listing of the church's pastors, elders, and deacons. Records of membership, baptisms, marriages, and deaths follow. Also included are some statistical reports and minutes of the congregation's annual meetings from 1925 through 1992. |
