Introduction | The records of St. Michael Catholic Church, 1900 - 2002, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in May 2002, with the cooperation of Reverend Robert J. Fisher of St. Michael Catholic Church. The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages*, interments, and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) Some text is in Latin. This register and this collection was prepared by Rachel Diegel in May 2002. *There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection. |
Agency History | The parish of St. Michael Catholic Church began with a petition signed by many Catholics in North Toledo. The petition showed the need for the establishment of a new parish in this section of the city. The bishop of the Diocese finally acted upon it in June of 1900 and St. Michael Catholic Church was officially organized in the summer of 1900. The parish completed their first church building in 1901. The parish's first priest was Reverend William A. Harks. On April 11, 1939, a fire severally damaged the church-school building. It was renovated, but the parish began building a new church in 1939. It was completed in December of 1940. Mossing, Lawrence A. S.T.D. History of the Diocese of Toledo.
