Introduction | The records of St. Michael Catholic Church, 1868 - 2001, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in July 2001, with the cooperation of Reverend David D. Tscherne of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael's Ridge, Ohio. The collection consists of baptisms * , first communions, confirmations, Book of the Elect, Rite of Election, marriages * , and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) Incomplete records (1844 - 1873) of St. Michael Catholic Church can be found at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Defiance (MS - 872). This register and this collection was prepared by Jennifer Golis in July 2001. * There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection. |
Agency History | St. Michael Catholic Church began as a Station of St. John Catholic Church in Defiance in 1844, when St. Michael's Ridge was known as North Ridge. In 1861, North Ridge built its first church and the parish's status was changed from a Station to a Mission. The parish received their first resident pastor in 1873. The parish's current church began being built in 1893 and was completed in 1902. In 1978, St. Michael became a sister parish of St. John Catholic Church in Defiance.
