Introduction | The records of St. Michael Catholic Church, 1879 - 2001, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in July 2001, with the cooperation of Reverend Thomas E. Oedy of St. Michael Catholic Church, Hicksville, Ohio. The collection consists of baptisms * , first communions, confirmations, Book of the Elect, marriages * and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) This register and this collection was prepared by Jennifer Golis in July 2001. * There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection. |
Agency History | In 1846, St. Michael Catholic Church began as a Station of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Toledo. In 1850, St. Michael became a Station of St. John in Defiance. In 1873, the parish became a Station of Antwerp. In 1880, the parish built their first church. In 1888, they became a Mission of Delaware Bend. In 1915, the parish once again became a Mission of Antwerp. In that same year the current church was completed. St. Michael has remained a Mission of a church and is currently being served by St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton, Ohio. Mossing, Lawrence A. S.T.D. History of the Diocese of Toledo.
