Introduction | The records of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1925 - 2002, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in April 2002, with the cooperation of Reverend Michael E. Schelling of St. Joseph Catholic Church. The early records of this church were previously filmed in 1996. The records on this roll are an update to the original filming. The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages* and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) This register and this collection was prepared by Rachel Diegel in April 2002. *There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection. |
Agency History | In 1861 the first church was erected on the corner of North Street and Bauer Court. The first Resident Pastor was father Puetz. In 1868 the first school was built onto the back of the church. Due to the need for a larger church, a second church was started in the late 1880's and was completed in 1892. The old church was converted into a school, adding to the school that was already at the back of this building. In 1908 a new school and convent were built. A one-story building was built in 1979 to be used for additional school facilities. Mossing, Lawrence A. S.T.D. History of the Diocese of Toledo.
