Introduction | Memoranda, correspondence and reports, both internal to BGSU and with representatives of the Ohio Board of Regents on topics of concern regarding higher education in Ohio and more specifically at Bowling Green State University. |
Agency History | The Ohio Board of Regents (now known at the Ohio Department of Higher Education) was created in 1963, as a nine-member advisory board to the Chancellor with two ex-officio representatives from the state legislature. Members of the Board of Regents were appointed by the Governor. OBOR's responsiblities still include developing an independent annual report on the condition of higher education in Ohio and advising the Chancellor on issues of statewide importance affecting higher education. Other responsiblities, now covered by the Department of Higher Education include authorizing and approving new degree programs, managing state-funded financial aid programs and developing and advocating policies to maximize higher education’s contributions to Ohio and its citizens. |
Scope and Content | Includes memoranda and correspondence both internal to BGSU and with representatives of the Ohio Board of Regents (OBOR) and other public universities in Ohio. The bulk of the collection covers the presidency of William T. Jerome and the creation and early years of OBOR. Subjects covered include budgeting, enrollments, the creation of PhD programs, implementation of a quarter system, the initial master plan for higher education, and annual reports for OBOR for nine of its first 10 years. |
