Introduction | The files of the Zonta club of Bowling Green were transferred to the Center by organization President Michelle Grigore in October of 2014. The 1.5 linear foot collection spans 1999 – 2016 and includes proceedings, correspondence, subject files, reports, literary productions, scrapbooks, printed material, and photographic material. No restrictions exist on the use of this collection and duplication is permitted for the purposes of preservation and scholarly research. The collection was arranged and described by Archives Assistant Rebecca Denes in April 2016. |
Agency History | Zonta International is a global professional women’s service and advocacy organization, founded in Buffalo, New York in 1919. The Bowling Green, Ohio Area Chapter of Zonta International was chartered in 1999 and remains active. The group works within the greater Bowling Green and Bowling Green State University community to advocate for underrepresented groups, provides scholarships for non-traditional students in need, and develops empowerment programs for girls and women. More information about the Zonta Club of Bowling Green Area can be found on their website. |
Scope and Content | The Zonta Club of Bowling Green, Ohio Area Collection serves as a complement to the large number of women’s clubs manuscripts held by the Center for Archival Collections. It also demonstrates the level of community involvement that organization like the Zonta Club have in Bowling Green. In comparison to many of these organizations, the Zonta Club of Bowling Green is a more recent addition to the community. Researchers who are interested in the history of women’s clubs or of advocacy in the region will find a wealth of information about the contemporary issues faced by the chapter, as well as their modern advocacy. Of particular interest in the collection are the subject files. The subject files provide insight into the connections between local, regional, national, and international groups. Additionally, researchers in gender studies fields may find the information on empowerment programs for women and girls a valuable resource. |
