|Agency History||The first honors program at Bowling Green State University was created in fall 1963. It began with some trial honors courses in the spring 1964 semester and officially started in fall 1964. In 1969, a new branch -- Experimental Studies, open to all students looking for alternative learning options -- was started. As part of this expansion, the Honors Program was gradually phased out. Experimental Studies ended in 1976 when it was consolidated with General Studies as a budget cutting measure. A new University Honors Program was established in 1978. It became the Honors College in 2013.|
|Scope and Content||This collection is divided into two series: Administrative Records (Boxes 1-11; no box 2) and Student Papers (Boxes 12-74). |
Collection size: Administrative Papers: 4.33 cubic feet [2 half letter sized manuscript boxes, 7 legal sized manuscript boxes, and 1 letter sized manuscript box]
Student Papers: 21 cubic feet (63 letter sized manuscript boxes)
|Series Description||1. Administrative Papers: This series documents the origins of the Honors Program in the mid-1960s and its revival in 1978. It also documents some of the work done by students during the "Experimental Studies" phase of the program. The "student files" and "student project" folders show the types of independent projects students engaged in up through 1974. The materials are arranged in chronological order through part of box 9; the last 2 1/2 boxes are in the order received and overlap somewhat with earlier correspondence/general files. |
2. Student Projects: This series consists of student projects (or in some cases only the project proposal) from the 1983 through 2010. The student papers are arranged into two groupings - 1983-2001 (arranged alphabetically) and 2002-2010 (arranged alphabetically by year). Projects from 2012 and later can be found in the BGSU institutional repository.
