Biographical Sketch | Robert K. Laporte, a project engineer at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, New York at the time of this collection’s donation, began his career as a naval engineer in the early 1950s. The bulk of donated photos were taken during the summers before and after LaPorte’s second year of college, as a cadet engineer aboard the JOSEPH BLOCK in 1950 and the E.J. BLOCK in 1951. |
Scope and Content | This .33 cubic foot collection is composed of 58 black and white photos of Great Lakes vessels. These 8 x 10 photos were taken at Indiana Harbor, Indiana in the early 1950s. Each of the photos was taken by Robert K. LaPorte on a 4 x 5 Speed Graphic Camera equipped with a 127mm f/4.7 Kodak Ektar lense mounted in a Supermatic X shutter. |
