Introduction | The records of the First United Methodist Church were transferred to the Center for Archival Collections for microfilming on April 20, 1990, with the assistance of Roland Baumann and Florence Worcester. The collection consists of five volumes of Record Books, dating from 1873 to 1930, which provide such membership statistics as baptisms, marriages, deaths, and membership status. A separate listing of funerals conducted is not kept until 1924, however, earlier deaths are noted within the alphabetical listing of members. Also information on baptisms in unavailable between 1893 and 1896, and unavailable for marriages between 1894 and 1899. Various administrative and committee minutes are also included in this collection. The Board of Trustees minutes date from 1869 to 1908. The minutes of the Official Board date from 1956 to 1968, and are followed by the Administrative Board minutes which date from 1969 to 1978. Minutes and other administrative papers of the Building Committee are available from 1967 to 1969. Also included is one volume of the Women's Home and Foreign Missionary Societies minutes, dating from 1922 to 1940, and a scrapbook from the Woman's Society of Christian Service, dating from 1940 to 1951. Various loose files documenting the Church's history, various deeds and mortgages, articles of incorporation and memorial dedications complete this collection. No restrictions exist on the use of this collection and duplication is permitted for research purposes. The finding aid was prepared by Ann Bowers in April 1990. |
