Introduction | The records of the First Lutheran Church, Galion, Ohio, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, on May 30, 1985 with the cooperation of Reverend Ronald Orovitz. The collection consists of three record books dating from 1831-1981, with the bulk of the information falling between the dates of 1831 and 1917. The record books consist of lists of pastors, officers, membership, baptisms, marriages, funerals, and communicants. Also included in the second volume is a constitution and bylaws of the Eastern Conference of Wittenberg Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1900; and, in the second and third volumes, a listing of important events in the church's history. On February 6, 1992, a second group of records were transferred to the Center for Archival Collections for microfilming with the cooperation of Timothy Keeler. This group consists of two volumes of record books and three volumes of church council minutes. The record books contain membership information arranged by individual member and dating from 1831 to the 1980s. The second volume does list separately baptisms, marriages, deaths, and accessions form 1917 to 1955. The church council minutes date from April 1891 to February 1926 and not only include information on the administration of the church, but also on the acceptance, dismissal, or excommunication of individual members. No restrictions exist on this microfilm edition and duplication is permitted for research purposes. The collection was arrranged and finding aid prepared by Ann Bowers, first in June 1985 and then in February 1992. |
