September 6, 1863Tiffin Sept. 6th 1863 Dear Friend Sallie It has been a long time since we have parted and many are the changes that have taken place. I have now been in Tiffin nearly a year and it is too bad that I have not Written sooner for old friends and Schoolmates should be more sociable. I knew you lived but a little distance from Bettsville I seen some people from there which said they were acquainted with you. I came out here last fall with my friends I taught a school here this summer I am staying at my cousins Mr. J. W. Reems in Tiffin. he says he is acquainted with some Cessnas near Kansas. I supose they are your friends I have no doubt you have been in Tiffin since I have been here. Mr. McCareys are distantly related to Mr. Reems. Mrs. Sarah Heilters was here once this summer I asked her whether she knew any thing about you she said you was at their house visiting the day or two before but I did not get to see her when she left to send any word to you. Sade nearly every body about Goshen and Green in fact nearly all the young folks we used to know are married. I sopose you heard Jerry Saxon is married Dave Durr and John Durr and King Wilson Will Eilder in fact nearly every body (-----) Dill Wilson was wounded at the battle of Murfreesborough and died and was buried at home. Perhaps you have heard all these things before, Oh, Sade I would like to come and see you before I go home If have any way of coming or sending for me I will come and then we will have a good old talk. Please answer immediately for I think of going home in a few weeks come and see me soon Your Friend and Schoolmate Give my love to Em and your mother and the little boys Bett Saxon and I wrote a letter to Emma a year ago last winter but I never recieved an answer Goodby Direct to Tiffin Ohio November 16, 1863Camp Dennison Ohio Sade We arrived in Camp yesterday which was Sunday about (-----) we did not leave Fremont till Saturday morning a little before day light then we went to Clyde and stayed there a bout an our, then we got on the train from Sandusky and went to Dayton we got there about 3 oclock and stayed there about a half an our then we got on a train and went to Xenia and stayed there till morning and then we got on a train and went to Camp we are all right I seen Co E 49 Ohio in Fremont a Friday Evening before we started. we will be Mustered in the Service to Morrow and draw our Clothes. this is a good Camp and big barracks and verry good --- some think we will stay here till Spring for my part I don't know we get good Rations and plenty of them. I ges we will draw our pay next Friday that is pay Day we had plenty of Fun when men come down here how is the boys going in Sandusky a getting along I wonder. I don't know what to write about so I ges I will have to quit for the time you kneed not to write till I write again for I don't know how to tell you to direct till we get Mustered in I will write in a day or two we are all right on Camp Dennison well it is none of my businese Curtis S Elder December 4, 1863Camp Dennison Ohio December the 4th 1863 Dear Sister Sade I received A Letter from you yesterday and was very glad in deed to hear from you that you was well and all right and was glad to hear that you had got our school. I want to know how much you get A month. You said that you was A going to Butcher A Friday which is to Day and you wished that Hank and me would butcher for us well we had a notion to start early this morning and come over and help it would be so much fun. well we did not come so you will have to do with out us this time Well I will try and tell you what we have been A doing to Day we did stay in Barracks 5 so to Day we moved in Barracks 8 we had quite A lot of fun A moving to Day. Campbells squad and Hendricks squad and Bowlus's squad was throwed to gether and Bowlus is to be Captain so good for him! I felt sorry to hear that Granfather was Dead but such things will happen. I hope that Jerry Lay is not dead. we have drawed our Blankets that is one A peace and before we leave Camp we will draw Rubber Blankets nothing more at present so good by for this time. write soon and tell me al the news. from C Elder to Sade Camp Dennison Ohio Brother Will I received A letter from you yesterday and was much pleased to hear from you. I suppose that you and rosso has made quite A lot of fence by this time. I want rosso to write me A letter and tell me how him and Angeline gets A long. I ges there will be some gay times back there at the Big Meetings this winter so then I will miss all of the fun. Elder Camp Dennison Ohio 9th regt OVC Barracks 8 December 13, 1863Camp Dennison Ohio December the 13 1863 Sister Sade I received your kind and affectionate yesterday evening and was very glad to hear from you. I am well at present and hope that you all are the same. this is Sunday and very muddy for it rained all Day yesterday and the Day before. I don't think that I will get to come home for there is 25 of our Company that was Detailed to get horses which come this morning. and I ges that we all will get horses in A Day or two and I think that we will not here very long. So if you are A going to send hank and me A box you may send it right off. I would like you to end me some red pepers and be sure and send some Apple Butter for I have not had A taste since I left home and you know how I always liked it. the boys are all well that went from A round there with the exceptions of Tim who has A very bad cold send me some penryail if you have any. I don't whant you to think that I am sick for I have not been sick since I have been in Camp I never was healthery in my life. it has been four weeks to Day since we came in Camp. I don't know what to rite any more this time so I will have to close for I want to write A little to Bill and ross yours in haste write soon from Curt Camp Dennison Ohio Decem the 13 1863 Brother Will and Dent I received your kind letters last evening and was very glad to hear from you both I want you to go to school this winter all you can and learn with all your might. be good boys and mind Sade and don't cut up in school I want you for my sake to mind mother what ever she says.
