October 16, 1944England Hi Kids - I waited, it seemed like a long time and I finally received your letter and address. I wanted to write you sooner but didn't have your address. Bert, I want to congratulate you for being able to put one of my favorite sisters under your wing. To me she has always been tops, and Sis I wish you many, many years of happily wedded bliss. I'm proud of you both. I only hope and pray that I shall be able to meet Eloise before to many months roll by and follow in your footsteps. Gee, four brother-in-laws. Sorry I can't tell you much of current events. A week ago Sunday Sgt. Hodel and myself had leave and we visited Stratford-on-Avon. We attended services in the church where Shakespeare and his people are laid to rest, Ann Hathaways cottage, Shakespeares birthplace and many other historical places of interest. We rode bicycle from place to place. I ran into Lawrence Curtz at the Red Cross club. Yesterday we were in London and saw the movie "Hitlers Song." A couple of weeks ago, the day you had set for your wedding, I was best man at a large church wedding here. A Sgt. from Indiana married a girl from the city nearby. We had a big day. If you don't hear from me very often, please don't think I've forgotten you. I hate to write letters. Wishing you both health and happiness, I remain as ever |
