The letters of Sergeant John Jefferson "Jeff" Parsons, Company H, 67th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, were written to the Perrysburg Journal. In an 1842 enumeration of youth in Plain Township, Wood County, Ohio, is shown John J. and George N. Parsons as wards of Neptune Nearing (Neptune died in 1844). Neptune's wife Stella Parsons (Nearing was her maiden name; she was Neptune's first cousin) lived until December 22, 1890 and was married first to a Parsons (likely John and George's father), then to Neptune Nearing from 1839-1844, then to Thomas Parsons Emerson from about 1848-1850, and finally to John Whitehead. John served as Plain Township clerk in 1857. His brother served the following year. Following his death, John J. Parsons was buried in Plain Township Cemetery.
