January 1862

Wednesday, January 1, 1862
Did not feel very bright after ___ time. Inez came in to bestow gifts. Have ran upstairs to hide. Got ready and all went down to go Mrs. Troxells to dinner. Had a very good time. Very warm when we went down, but how cold when we came home. Got a letter from Will. Crushaid a stick of brade. Felt mighty sad.

Thursday, January 2, 1862
Helped get breakfast. Got ready and went to commence my labors as a teacher. Found Frank there to welcome me. Had quite a little chat. Had a 6 pupils and 12 classes. No trouble with the bad schollars. Went to go to Jims. Met Charlie A. and he said they were at his house and I must go back, so I did. Had a nice little time. Mollie and I were anxious to go to bed.

Friday, January 3, 1862
Got up when they called us to breakfast. Quite cold. Came to school. Found a good fire. Had 8 schollars and 14 classes, no trouble. Father in at noon. Walked to town through the snow. Not very funny but such are the luxuries of school teaching. Found Rob and Dunn at home. Missed a party at Shroders. Finished crushaing (crocheting) and sewed it on.

Saturday, January 4, 1862
Rob took me part way to school. Wished I was one of the lucky ones so that I would not have to do so much that I could not well do in order to keep along. Walked some, was tired. Dunn here. Rob and I went down to the store. Paid 25 cents a yard for some muslin. Cut a pattern for Martha and cut me a chemise. Dunn and I had quite a visit.

Sunday, January 5, 1862
Very cold. Went to Sab. S. (Sabbath School). About 60 there, had a good time. Heard Dunn lecture. Came home, got dinner. Jim and Nan here. Read some, took a nap. Dreamed strangely. Read the English paper. Mr. Shafner came in and chatted awhile. I went over and Han went with me to prayer meeting. Snowing like sixty. Felt lonely. Rob went to Jim's. Albert singing.

Monday, January 6, 1862
Helped Viola do the morning work. Albert brought me to school. Found 16 schollars awaiting my arrival. No trouble. Went to Mr. Beards to stay all night. ____, James and Mrs. Price was there. Had a very pleasant visit with them. Worked an example as found the interest on a note where partial payments had been made. Talked and crushaid (crocheted) some.

Tuesday, January 7, 1862
Got up when breakfast was ready. Crushaid (crocheted) some. Talked of course. Found some new pupils. Classes enough to keep one busy. ____ read the Tribune. Was news not very encouraging. Went to Jim's to stay all night. Found Rob there. John Montgomery came to visit them and had quite a chat about California.

Wednesday, January 8, 1862
Nan brought me to school in the cutter. Not very good sleighing, rough. No trouble with my school. Went to Mr. Saurwines and stayed all night. Teased Mr. S. about going to the party. Did not like him very much. Rained all the afternoon.

Thursday, January 9, 1862
Very heavy fog. Got up a 8 o'clock. Ate breakfast. Came to school. Talked awhile with Mrs. Fox. No trouble. Went home through the mud. Got supper. Martha up to Nan Baggets. Cut up with Frankie Mills. Talked with Rob. Said he was going to camp in a short time. Fixed my skirt.

Friday, January 10, 1862
Rob took me to school. Did not stop. Got vexed at one of the big boys and showed a little Irish. Went to Frank Foxes and stay all night. We had a good old time training me. We had a sober chat. Talked about times past. Enjoyed it very much and they seemed to think it a great compliment to have me there.

Saturday, January 11, 1862
Felt a little sad. Had had dreams. Frank made a fire for me. Had 12 schollars. Froze hard and cold. Noon. Went to Franks for dinner. Rained. Bro. Dunn came after me. Felt sad. They said Rob was going to camp. Dunn and I had a great train. Knit some. Dunn and I sat up till 12 o'clock. Told me his secrets, will not tell them.

Sunday, January 12, 1862
Helped do the morning wash. Went to Sabbath school. Rained a little. Got very cold. Froze hard. Heard Mr. C. preach. Jim here for dinner. Wrote to Mr. C. Han came over. We went to prayer meeting. Had a very good one. Read some.

Monday, January 13, 1862
Walked to school. Got there just about 9 o'clock. Schollars waiting. Had 18, no trouble. Very cold. Came home. Sewed on my shimise. Had the biggest time training with Dunn. Got a letter from Mollie. I fixed Dunn's coat as he thought it the duty of a sister to do.

Tuesday, January 14, 1862
Went to school in good time. Had very good lessons to hear some mischief to contend with. Noon. Went over to Franks. Glad to see me. Children girls all gave me two or three kisses. Got home at 5 o'clock. Cold. Sewed. Gave Rob a check of mine on the bank. Got a letter from Mr. C.

Wednesday, January 15, 1862
Helped to get breakfast. Linden took me part way to school. Some snow. 22 pupils. Rode with Mr. Anway (?) as far as his house. Dunn at home feeling very funny. Helped get supper. Fixed Rob's pants. Sewed some on my shemise. Had a little dispute about grammar. Dunn ruled my register for me.

Thursday, January 16, 1862
Got up when call to breakfast. Was so busy dreaming about a nice present that Rob gave me, a box of everything. Walked to school. 24 schollars all on the list. No trouble. Walked home. Was very tired. Dunn wanted me to go to prayer meeting. To tired to go. Sewed.

Friday, January 17, 1862
Quite a snow. Martha and Albert went to _______ and I went with them as far as the school house. Had some trouble. Got word from Mr. Anway that made me a little mad. Went to see Frank. He came and spent the afternoon at school. M. Spooner and T. Milliman was there. Came home. Went to Jim's with Mr. & Mrs. Bogart.

Saturday, January 18, 1862
Helped get breakfast. Did not eat any. Did not feel very well. Washed my dress. Sewed and finished my shimise. Did not go over to see Han for Inez came and then Jim and Nan came. Han sent for me but could not go. Rob took her sleigh riding, did not go with them. Thought they would rather go alone, I would. They all tried to tease me because my fellow did not come to take me riding.

Sunday, January 19, 1862
Got up early. Martha went to quarterly meeting with Bro. ____. Did the wash. Red some. Wrote to Maze Grubb a long letter. Got dinner. Did the work. Went over to see Mrs. ____ a short time. Went in to see Han. She would not let me come home till near night. Very foggy all day. Went to church and heard Bro ____ preach. Will come home with me. Had a little chat about schools. Thundered and lightening some. Rained and froze. Martha and I talked till 11 o'clock.

Monday, January 20, 1862
Rob brought me to school on horse back. Very icy indeed. Trees loaded down . Two new schollars. Had 12 pupils. No trouble. Went to Mr. Beards to stay all night. Had an introduction to his ____. Had a big chat. They told me how much Frank thought of me and had a great time talking about getting married.

Tuesday, January 21, 1862
Crashed (crocheted) some. Went to school. No trouble. Went home. Called at Mr. Always and took supper. Talked about what he said about me. They were both very sorry for what had been said. Went to prayer meeting. Got a letter from Mr. C. An was there. Wrote to C. Will came in and chatted a short time.

Wednesday, January 22, 1862
Helped do the work. Rob took me to school. Millie Milliman went with us. Still icy. Mr. Anway asked me to forgive him for what he said. Had a little company. Jim came and brought all his school to visit and some other company beside. In all about 28 came up in a big sled with cutter behind, two flags. Came home with them. Read some.

Thursday, January 23, 1862
Nan took me to school. Admired the scenery. Some of the branches broken off by the weight of the ice. Some trouble in school. Did not feel much like coaxing. Wrote a note to Mr. Beard to expel one of my schollars. ____ and wife and myself came down to Jim's and spent the eve. Had a pretty good time. Rob came. Said he was going to camp Tuesday. Feel bad of course.

Friday, January 24, 1862
Talked to father and Rob. Felt bad to think Rob was going away. He took me to school. Heard the regiment had gone. Beard expelled J. Briggs. Albert came for me. Saw Rob's big coat as soon as I got home. Felt as though he was in a tighter place then he was ever in. He got up a crowd of about 20 and went up to the Bogarts. Had a very good time indeed. I ____ going up for Rob and ran horses with Charlie. Had lots of fun coming home.

Saturday, January 25, 1862
Helped Martha some. Got ready and Rob, Han and I went to Tiffin. Snowed some. Got my dishes. Cost $16.00. Went to the store. Saw some friends. Went to Mr. Sullivans after ____ and the biggest time coming home. Said almost anything. Knit almost a foot to Bob's stocking. The scenery was beautiful as the sun sat ____. The trees looked as though they were trimmed with silver.

Sunday, January 26, 1862
Beautiful morn. Rob decided to follow the regiment. Did not go to Sab(Sabbath) - _____ till it was near out, cried prior all the forenoon. Dunn preached good. Jim and Nan, ___ and Inez here for diner. Went with Rob up to the Cunninghams. Called at ___ Powell's and at Theadores. Nan and Martin here and Martin taught Rob _____. Did not go the church. Felt to sad.

Monday, January 27, 1862
Helped do the work. Albert, Martha I Rob went with me to school. Did not stay. Let Mary teach for me. Went to see Sophia. Came back by Jim's for dinner. Knit all the time. ____ came home with us. Called at Margi's. Some of the zanny folks came in to see Rob. Spent the eve rather pleasantly. Felt sad. Jim and I went with Rob up to Mr. Cunninghams. A very sad parting. Rained so hard they did not go.

Tuesday, January 28, 1862
Albert took me to school. Jim and I came home after day (?). Rob did not start till 8 o'clock. Rained all day. Did not have many schollars. Felt very tired, sad, and sleepy. I thought poor Rob. Maybe I could not have the pleasure of his company any more. Water high. Went to Frank's. Glad to see me. Went to bed at 7 o'clock. Did not feel like talking to anyone. Thought that Rob was gone.

Wednesday, January 29, 1862
Chatted. Went to school. No trouble. Mr. Anway brought me to the sidewalk. Came home. Martha over to Mr. Beans. Found a letter waiting to be read from Mr. C. Got supper. Went to church. Water high. Wrote to Mr. C. Felt rather tired of walking back and forth trying to teach the naughty youth, but such was my duty.

Thursday, January 30, 1862
Got up at 5 o'clock. Dunn brought me across the water. Helped Martha some before school. Felt as though I ought to do some good at home as well as at school. Thought maybe I would never have to walk to and from school another term as my serious thoughts were that I would take a select school for life and I was almost afraid to venture too.

Friday, January 31, 1862
Helped Martha some. Went to school. No trouble. Noon. Went over to Franks. Had a nice little time. Came home. Quite muddy. Mary came with me. Han came with us from _____. Martha ___ and I went to the office. All went to church together. Heard Dunn preach "Prepare to meet thy God" was his text. Did not do anything extra with it and was told so.

Saturday, February 1, 1862
Got up early. Baked some pies. Frankie and Viola went with me to school. School small. Frankie spoke and ____ for me. Thawed and got muddy. Mr. C. came just as school was out and took us home. Dunn had some company and we went out to Theodors. Drove slow and got there near ___ o'clock. Read a ____ story. Was awful sleepy. Did not talk much. C. thought it rather dull.

Sunday, February 2, 1862
Did not get up very early. Ate breakfast at 9 o'clock. Talked. Went over to Jim's for dinner. He said just what he pleased as usual. Father did not like it because we did not come up to see him. All went to town to church. Heard Mr. C. preach an excellent sermon on the crucifixion of our savior. Several forward for prayers. Went to Jim's to stay all night. He wanted to have us a little while in his house. Of course we did. Talked about matters in particular.

Monday, February 3, 1862
Did not get up very early. Mr. C. brought me to school. Did not have many schollars. Tried to snow all day. Noon. Wrote some to Rob. Went home. Saw Miss Sanford. Talked with her. Helped get supper. Went to church. Had a good time. Han and Limpy (?) went forward for prayers. Good many _____. Some got religion. Han went home with me and stayed all night. Finished writing to Rob. Late when all went to bed.

Tuesday, February 4, 1862
Helped get breakfast. Julia came in, cut out the skirt of Viola's dress. Started to school. Rode with Dr. Mc. Boys had fun raising money to pay one of the big girls for crying. Came home. Got a letter from Rob. Martha had found out the secret concerning Dunn. Han came for me to go with her to church. Mc (?) preached. Saw Miss Delray. Very pleasant indeed. Julia stayed all night with me.

Wednesday, February 5, 1862
Helped Martha some. Walked to school. Noon. Went over to Franks. Came back and found that one of my big girls and small boys had been quarrelling. Had to punish them both. Went home. Quite muddy. Jim and Nan came up for church. Jim scolded me. Felt a bad over it. Miss Warden there for supper. Went to church. Dunn preached. Why ____ _____. Had a good time. Han and a good many others was forward.

Thursday, February 6, 1862
Finished cutting Viola's dress. Bro. Mc brought me to school. Had a pleasant start. Muddy. Noon. Wrote ____ commenced a letter to Mollie S. Did not go home for it. Was too muddy. Went to Mr. Beards. Spent the eve pleasantly. His Bro. John was there. He and I talked about religion and different doctrines. They are universalist. Went to bed early. Thought about meeting. Wondered if they had a good many more come to see Mc.

Friday, February 7, 1862
Got breakfast at 8 o'clock. Cold. Froze hard. Mrs. Beard and I had a long chat. Noon. The boys had some trouble. Talked to them about one hour. Felt bad to think they could not agree. Wrote to Mollie S. Went to church. Heard Dunn. Han went home with me after we had been in to Bro. Mc. Jesse was there. Had a pleasant time.

Saturday, February 8, 1862
Walked to school. Had as many schollars as 20. Wrote some at noon. Linden came after me. Helped get supper. Went to church. Heard Mc. preach. Baptist preacher there. Went home with Limpy. Had one of the best visits. Mollie Warden went with me. Mrs. Hamilton was there. After Mrs. Mc. went to bed we read in the Bible and talked as much as we pleased. Went to bed at 12 o'clock.

Sunday, February 9, 1862
Got up quite early. Went home. Helped to get breakfast. Got ready for morning meeting. Had a good one. 12 united with the church. Went to see Beck emersed in the pond, cut out a piece of ice. Han and I took Jesse part of the way home. Had a nice little ride in the cold. Went to church. Mc. preached an excellent sermon. Had an extra meeting after. Most all went home.

Monday, February 10, 1862
Went to school. 20 schollars. Some mischievous ones. Finished Mollie's letter at noon. Came home. Tired. Went to church. Heard Dunn preach from Remember thy Creator ____. Jim went with me to church. ____ went to the office first. Went home with Han and stayed all night.

Tuesday, February 11, 1862
Very cold and stormy. Went to school. Pleasant school. Greeted with kisses as usual. No trouble. Came home. Got a letter from C. Will Brunely came in to go to church, but I was too tired and wanted to write. He and I had a long chat on doctrines. He went to church. Wrote to Mr. C. Felt tired and sleepy. Went to bed at 12 o'clock.

Wednesday, February 12, 1862
Dunn brought me to school and we rode very fast and I kind of lost my balance and my foot was out of the stirrup and off I went. Sprained my ankle. Pleasant school. Night so muddy that I did not go home. Went to Mr. Sourwines. She not at home. Thought Mrs. F. Fox was not so went in to the old folks and the old woman did not show herself about so I started to go home and Mrs. Lasey F. called me and made me come back. I did and cried like a baby. My ankle was very painful.

Thursday, February 13, 1862
Very heavy snow. Thawed some all day. had 21 pupils. Very mischievous. ____ with many kisses and good nights. Walked part of the way home. Noon. Commenced a letter to Rob. Went in to Mrs. Hamiltons to see if I could hear from dear Charlie. news was old. Came home. Went to church. Had a good one. Dunn, Hand and I had a little snow ball.

Friday, February 14, 1862
Snowed some. Dunn took me to school in the cutter. Went on to Tiffin. School small. Frank Fox spent the forenoon in school. Noon. Wrote some. After school went to Franks and stayed till Dunn came back. Came home with him. Han and Clara came for me to go with to church. Not so good was the meeting. Went in to Mc. Came back. Wrote some. Read some. Very cold. Got a Valentine and a note from Rob.

Saturday, February 15, 1862
Helped to the baking. Got ready and went a sleighing. Albert took a load of us. Went to Jim's. Had lots of fun. Came back. Went to singing. Talked with Rob C. till Dunn had a mind to scold. Han and I went to Crams shop. Talked to Dr. Shaffner. Talked of going to Tiffin but it was so very cold that we did not. Went to church. Will came home with me. Stayed till 10 o'clock. Wrote some to Rob. Had a great time talking.

Sunday, February 16, 1862
Did part of the work. Went to Sabbath school. Not very many out. Jim and Nan here for dinner. Had a large class. Wrote some. Dr. Shafner came. I went up to see ____. Had a pleasant time. Went in to D. Ogdens a few moments. Went to Bro. Mc. and stayed with her till church was about half out. Her girl left her every night to take care of C. Came home. Finished Rob's letter and went to bed.

Monday, February 17, 1862
Got up quite early. Did the work before I went to school. Albert took me in the wagon. had 17 pupils. Noon. Got an invitation to attend a part at Mrs. E. Janeses. Commenced a letter to Rob. Sent one to him in the snow. Rode home with Mr. & Mrs. Betts. Went up to see Lill. Concluded not to go to the party. Went down street. Chatted with Will B. Lill and I had a chat of our own. Came home. Cut out a little skirt for Minnie to take to the donation party. Sewed till near 11 o'clock.

Tuesday, February 18, 1862
Got up early and made fire. Got breakfast. Crushaid (crocheted) some. Martha and Albert went to Thomases and took me part way to school. Noon. Crushaid (crocheted) brode for the little skirt. ____ and J. came back that way so I came home with them. Got a letter from C. Finished the little skirt and fixed some of Dunn's clothes. ____ Dunn had the blues and we had a long talk over matters and things.

Wednesday, February 19, 1862
Walked to school. Froze hard. Had 20 pupils. Wrote to C. at noon. Dunn came after me and it stormed most tremendous hard and cold. Great time about the donations. Went to the donations and such a time as we did have. Perfect ____. The committee did not agree very well. They sat the table in the alter. Mc. and Dunn felt bad. Came home through a deep snow. Finished Mr. C. letter. Talked about the donations.

Thursday, February 20, 1862
Heavy snow. Got up late. Shaffner here before we ate breakfast. Dunn took me to school. Did not get there till 9 o'clock. 20 pupils. Some trouble. Wished school was out. Noon. Tried to write but the schollars acted so that I could not. Went to Dell Janes and stayed all night. Had a good deal to say about her party. I did not care much about her party.

Friday, February 21, 1862
Started to school after breakfast. Went in to Mrs. Beards. Talked about war and wrote some to Rob before school called. No trouble. Felt bad. Walked home. Brs. Mc and wife just starting away a letter from Rob. Glad to hear from him. We went up to Mr. Bogarts and spent the eve. Good sleighing. had a pleasant time. Will B. was there and came home with us. Read some and went to bed.

Saturday, February 22, 1862
Did not get up very early. Helped do some of the work. Albert took me to school. Felt bad all day. Noon. Went up to Franks and chatted awhile. Had a pleasant time or pleasant school. Walked home. Very bad walking. Thawing. Wrote some. Jim and Nan came up. All went to I do not know what it might be called, to the church to celebrate G. Washington's birthday. His farewell address was read by J. Smith. Choir tried to sing and play.

Sunday, February 23, 1862
Went to Sabbath S. (school). Not very many out. Very wet. Mc. preached. He was not able to go to his own appointments. Read the Tribune. Cheering news from War. fort (?) Dan - Olsan (?) taken a complete victory. Irwin and wife here and ___ and wife for supper. Did not go to church. Finished Rob's letter. Commenced one to Annie S. Got one from E. Wiltse.

Monday, February 24, 1862
Very stormy morn. Albert brought me to school. Very bad going. Had 13 pupils. Noon. Commenced a letter to Annie Seymore. Pupils had lots of fun. Read some for the schollars before school was out. Went in to Franks with the little girls to wait for their fathers. Mr. Swagert went there and stayed all night. Had a very pleasant visit. Read some. War news favorable.

Tuesday, February 25, 1862
They brought us to school in the sled. Very rough. Had 19 (?) pupils. Wrote some at noon and the schollars had lots of fun. Linden came after me. Got a letter from Marian Hag (?) and one from Mr. C. Albert told Br. Painters more than I thought he ought to, but he just laughed at me and wrote some more. Finished Annies letter. Put a bas____ in Albert's shirt. Chatted with Jim and ____.

Wednesday, February 26, 1862
Got breakfast. Albert brought me to school. Was some trouble with one of the pupils. Wished school was out for anything but having a troublesome school. Went down to Jim's. Walked. Expected to meet him every moment but did not. Very muddy. Went with them to Mr. Kenny's (?) to a party. Did not think that it payed very well. Jim's girl flaired up and would not keep Cora and they told her to go. Had a long talk with W. G. Crysill about schools.

Thursday, February 27, 1862
Father brought me to school. Had quite a chat. Froze hard. Schoolars all pleasant. No trouble. Bro. McKean came down to the schoolhouse for me to come home with him. Came in a few moments. Had a pleasant chat on the way home. Sewed some. Clara here. Went to prayer meeting. Wrote to Mr. C. Dunn and Albert and I had a little difference about arithmetic.

Friday, February 28, 1862
Dunn took me to school. Very rough. Met the shollars with a kiss. No serious trouble. Felt very much provoked at some of the boys. Dunn came after me. Very kind to his sister. Worked some button holes for Martha. Cut out a shirt for Linden.

March 1862

Saturday, March 1, 1862
Walked to school. Pupils did not get there till late. Did not care if they came at all. Some of them at least. They were so bad. Linden came after me and when I got home Bro. Close was here and he met me very cordially. Had a nice little time. He was here for tea (?). Jim and father ____. Han and I do not know how many more was here. Went to hear the _____ _____. Told more stories but forgot to preach. Began a letter to Rob.

Sunday, March 2, 1862
Went to Sabbath school. House cold. Did not have much of a school. Went in to Mrs. Mc. Heard Dunn preach. Went from there to the funeral of Mr. White. Brunely preached and it was a great preach. Ant (?) came home with us for dinner. Had quite a chat. Went over to see Han. She cried to come home with me. mr. C. was there. had a big talk about matters and things in particular.

Monday, March 3 1862
Linden took me to school. Very unpleasant. Schollars did not come till late and was not sorry. Some of them acted awful. Went to Franks at noon and he came to school this afternoon and talked to the schollars and they did not care one bit. Felt bad. Jim came after me. Cline stayed all day. Did not spark very much. Played checkers.

Tuesday, March 4, 1862
Jim teased us some. Walked to school. mr. Swigart and Mr. Beard came. They gave the boys fits and told me if they did not mind I should thrash them and they would back me. They were awful mad at the directors and as soon as they got over that they were as good as pie. Went home. Went in to see Clara Thompson. Sewed for Martha.

Wednesday, March 5, 1862
Cold. Walked to school. Built fire or helped do it. Noon. Copied my certificate. Did some examples. No trouble with the bad boys. Went home with Carrie Spooner. Had a pleasant time visiting Alansans (?) picture. How pretty he was. Thought how many times I had seen him in life. Full of life and hope but he is no more.

Thursday, March 6, 1862
Very pleasant morn. schollars all pleasant, did not feel very well. Pleasant time. Walked home. 6 young ladies here for tea. Had a very pleasant time. They were the best girls in town. Some came to go to church. All wanted to go to our prayer meeting but Beck Nash. She went to baptist church and wanted Mollie to go but not her.

Friday, March 7, 1862
Little brothers brought me to school in Bro. Mc. buggy. Had a pleasant little time. Not many schollars. No trouble. Sang (?) on the maps. Miss Stewart came in and I went with her to Franks and stayed all night. They told me some things that had been said but it did trouble me much. We had a great time talking before we went to bed.

Saturday, March 8, 1862
Came to school and built my own fire. Pleasant little school. The bad boy not present. Noon. Finished making out my report. Mary and I stayed and swept the schoolhouse. Walked home. Thought the mud some less than four feet deep. Got very muddy. Read some. Talked some about matters in particular.

Sunday, March 9, 1862
Helped do the work. Went to Sabbath S. Had a very good one. Bro. Mc. preached and excellent sermon. After dinner we went to the pond to see Elija and Marian emersed. Mollie and I went in to see Inez. Wrote a letter to Mr. C. ____ business. Read some. Went in to Mrs. Millses. Had an introduction to two girls. Not very smart. Went to prayer meeting.

Monday, March 10, 1862
Linden brought me to school. Very muddy indeed. As many schollars as will get there. Pleasant little time. Miss Stewart there all the afternoon. Brought my certificate to the township clerk. Mr. Beard came in and signed it. Parted good friends with all of the schollars and they seemed to think every thing of me and said they would come to see me and wanted me to come and see them. Martha and I went up to see Gill. Went in to Sealts (?) to see the girls.

Tuesday, March 11, 1862
Got up quite early. Went to Tiffin. Got my things for the important occasion. Spent about $25.00. Was very tired when I got through trading. ____ came in to see what I had got. Thought I did very well. We went to hear McKinny preach. Dunn and I went down to Rob Chamberlains and chatted a short time. Came home. Got a letter from C. Commenced one to Rob.

Wednesday, March 12, 1862
Helped do the morning work. Fixed my gown. Girls in and got the pattern. Han and I had a big train with Dr. Shaffner. Got some mangled. Fixed my skirt. Washed some. Went to female prayer meeting. Did not enjoy it very much. ____ less than a dozen of us girls went to the office and in to Chums to buy 3 cts worth of paper. Cut out Martha's dress and sewed. 2 of the girls came for me to go with them to church. Did not. 12 different ones in during the day.

Thursday, March 13, 1862
Got up quite early. Helped do the work. Ironed my clothes. Made the waist of Martha's dress. Fixed some of my things. Ready for a call. 10 different ones in. Good chance to work when in such a hurry. Read a little for a change. Jim and Nan here in the eve. Talked over matters. Got a letter from Rob.

Friday, March 14, 1862
Got up at 4 o'clock. Wrote some to Rob. Arranged Rob's and my trunk. Cleaned up upstairs. Martha and I worked like sixty and had a good deal done by 9 o'clock. Commenced sewing when Lill S. came to help me to cut out my important dress. Did intend to put if off but we cut it out. Bro. Mc. and wife here for dinner. They all tried to torment me. 6 others in during the day. We hid the silk when Han came in for she thought she knew so much. Eve. Finished my wrapper. Got a letter from Cline.

Saturday, March 15, 1862
Rained and stormed hard all day. Went up to Mrs. Shirdleys (?) to sew. Thought we would not be bothered so much. Got along finely with the dress. Came home once during the day and went in to Mrs. Thompson for a sleeve pattern through the rain. Lill came to the post office with me. Came home. Read some. Wrote to Rob some. Dunn here and was quite talkative and read some for our benefit.

Sunday, March 16, 1862
Got breakfast. Went to Sabbath school through the snow. Gave Clara Chu_____ the premium for getting the most verses. Wrote to Mr. C. Han came and we went to singing. She came home with me and stayed till prayer meeting. had quite a good one. Finished Rob's letter. Dunn came home just as I had done and we had had a long visit. He had some trouble which we talked of.

Monday, March 17, 1862
Did not get very early. Washed. Got done before noon. Felt tired. Dunn and I had a regular tussle. He washed my face with snow and I washed his. Han and Limpy came in and Dr. Shaffner here and we had a little chat and sent a few jokes about the blood thirsty tussle that we had. Had a few days before Martha and I went over to Mr. Halls. Spent the eve. I stayed all night with Nan.

Tuesday, March 18, 1862
Crawford Co. We packed up. Mr. & Mrs. Grub helped us. Had good luck. The man came to take ____. David told us that Sophia had buried here babe. I felt sad. The young folks came from Oreola to stay all night and have a time. Will had his violin. John _____ heads had any amount of fun. All enjoyed it but Mollie. Went home at midnight. 3 (?) of the girls in. Went in to see John. Went to church. Had a good time with the girls. Fixed my cloak. Learned to knit.

Wednesday, March 19, 1862
All felt well but a little sad at parting. Some of us went in to the backroom to cry and some laughed at us. It snowed hard all the forenoon. Stopped at Mr. ___steads for dinner. I went to Sophias and found her very sad indeed. How I pitied her to think she had to part with her darling little girl. Ironed. Dunn and I spent the after at Mr. G. _____ and _____ came in to tea. Got a letter from Rob and it made me cry. I felt so sorry. Commenced one to him.

Thursday, March 20, 1862
Got up. Got ready to go to Tiffin. Went in the back. Found it most muddy enough. Had a little fun going down. Shoes not touched. Bonnet done. Got trimming for dress. Run around through the mud till I was quite tired. Eat diner with Mrs. Slinner (?). Started home and it rained like sixty all the way. had a real spruce partner and had lots of fun commenting on and about one thing and another. Got home safe. Wrote a note to Lill. Read part of the way home. Dunn and I talked a long time upstairs.

Friday, March 21, 1862
Got up early. Raining yet. Went with Lill down street. Baked some for the occasion. Went up to Shindley's (?) to see about my dress. Finished it. Rained and snowed all day. Came very near getting the blues. Came home. Fixed my shoes. Made a little change in the sitting room for company. Wrote some to Rob. Got a letter from him. Made one feel a little sad to read it. Poor boy. Young folks came in to spend the eve. Did not have a very jolly time. had an invitation to go to a party with Chum. Promised to go with him. Guess he will not come for me.

Saturday, March 22, 1862
Did not get up very early. Helped Martha do the morning work and to bake. Made my head dress. Talked to Han. Sarah in and stayed a long time. Snowed all day. Felt some what sad. Went over to Hall's. Hand and I went (to) the office. Saw Cline _____ then we came home. Got a letter from Mage (?). Martha and I went up to Shindley's after my dress and other things and forgot my dress and Dunn went after it. Copied two hymns for Martha. Wrote some to Rob. Martha and I washed. Went to bed.

Sunday, March 23, 1862
Did not get up very early. Snowing like sixty. Did not care much. Lill came before I got any work done. All tried to tease me. Martin and Nan came. Jim and Nan came and that constituted the guests. Felt somewhat nervous. The knot was tied fifteen minutes past 10. McKean was so frightened that he made a few mistakes. Went to church. Some looking _____. Was saluted by many of my friends. After dinner we had a chat with Bro. Mc. Gave us good advise. Had a sing. Went to prayer meeting. Albert and Martha tried to have a little fun over us. Had a present of two cakes.

Monday, March 24, 1862
Martha called us to get up about 5 o'clock. Got up. Helped do the work. Snowing. Had several calls. Rather pleasant. Many good wishes. Got ready and came down to Fathers. Most of his children at home. Had a very nice dinner. 2 kinds of cake and other things accordingly. Wrote a note and packed a little box full of cake to send to Rob. Stayed all night with Father. Hated to very much. Jim and Nan spent the eve.

Tuesday, March 25, 1862
Had any amount of cake ____ for breakfast. Jim and Nan brought us up to Mr. Bogarts and spent the day. Mr. C and I stayed all night. Had a very pleasant visit. Mr. B. unusually pleasant. Had warn sugar to eat. Eat so much sweet that it ceased to taste well. Was some nice talking done. Knit on my collar. Mr. C. seemed very much pleased with his new wife and as a matter of cause I was with my husband but wanted to be a little hidden about. Got a letter from Mrs. McClelland.

Wednesday, March 26, 1862
Got up when the bell rang. Ate breakfast. Chatted. Nan tried to tease us a little. Mr. Bogart sent us him in the wagon as it was to muddy to come any other way. All gone. Swept the rooms. Han came and stayed all the afternoon. 5 of the other girls called to see me. Pleasant time had we. Jesse and Han and little _____ for tea. I had to preside. We went to a party at Mrs. Hill's. Spent part of the eve there and part at Mr. John Smith's (?). Had a very pleasant little time indeed. Came home. Went to bed. Dunn here.

Thursday, March 27, 1862
Pleasant morn. Got breakfast. Milked. Saw Mr. C. start off in the hack. Tried to tease me. Did the work. Han was here when _____ started. Did not feel very much like work. Good many in and out. Jennie spent the afternoon. Showed her how to knit the collar. Miss Simmons came in to see me. Pleasant to have them call. Martha and I went up to see grandmother. I went in to see Mrs. Chamberlain. Went in to the. Heard of the dreadful fight at Winchester. Went to prayer meeting. Good. had a letter from C.

Friday, March 28, 1862
Did not get up very early. Helped do the work. Ironed awhile. Martha was helping. Albert pack some, then we separated our things so as to pack them. Mrs. Hortan (?) and Clara here for dinner. Fixed my head dress. 9 of us went down town. Got a letter from Add W. hand and I went in to Mrs. Weikerts. Went in to the girls room. Miss Sanford came in to see us. 16 different ones in. We went down to Mrs. Horton's to eat warm sugar. Had all we could eat. We went in to Millimans and also to McKeans. Han came home with me and stayed all night.

Saturday, March 29, 1862
Gloomy and rainy. Made some cake for Martha. persons coming in all the time. Knit some on my collar. Jim came and had a chat. Felt very anxious to hear from the boys. Martha and I went up to Inezes and took supper. Albert came to tea. Had a pleasant visit. Got my nice shoes. Liked them very much. Came home. Commenced a letter to Rob. Felt anxious about him.

Sunday, March 30, 1862
Did not get up very early. Went to Sabbath school. Thought I would listen but my little pupils would have me to teach them. They felt very much provoked at Mr. C. for taking me off. Went to Mr. Bogarts. had a pleasant time. Came home. Mollie and Clara came in. We went to take a walk. Mollie and I went to Mrs. Shindley's (?). Went to pray. Had a good one. All felt good.

Monday, March 31, 1862
Martha had quite a time to get us up. Got breakfast. Packed up. All helped. Thomas came up after my things. Some in to see us. Dr. Shaffner and I had a long chat while the rest was loading. Came home with S. Unloaded. Eat dinner. Cut out my dress and sewed all the afternoon. Morn. Wrote in jennies album. Finished Rob's letter. Felt lonely. Wanted to see Mr. Cline.
