Agency History | In 1967, Ray Browne joined the English Department at Bowling Green State University. That same year he founded the Center for the Study of Popular Culture and The Journal of Popular Culture, the field’s first scholarly journal. The Center was granted department status in 1974, issuing both master's and undergraduate degrees, the first and still only graduate department in the country dedicated to the study of popular culture. |
Scope and Content | A good portion of this collection is made up of groups of correspondence from faculty who taught in the Popular Culture Department including Michael Marsden, one of the original professors at the department. There is also an extensive number of syllabi for departmental offerings demonstrating the evolution of courses and topics studied. The collection is organized in the order in which it was received. Occasional additions have been made to the folders in the collection, particularly the correspondence of Michael Marsden. Collection size: 11 letter sized manuscript boxes (3.67 cubic feet) |
