Agency History | Mortar Board was founded in 1918 as the first national organization honoring senior college women. At Bowling Green State University, the similarly focused Cap and Gown was formed around 1942-1943. In 1969 it became a chapter of Mortar Board. Its full title (added in 1989) is The Fayetta M. Paulsen Cap and Gown Chapter of Mortar Board, after an administrator who helped bring Mortar Board to the BGSU campus. The organization began to admit men in 1976 in order to comply with Title IX. |
Scope and Content | The collection is arranged in the order it was received. It includes scrapbooks, meeting minutes, correspondence, newsletters and other materials documenting the chapter and its activities. Collection size: 2 record center cartons plus 2 unhoused scrapbooks (approximately 2.5 cubic feet). |
