Introduction | The St. Vincent Medical Center Collection was transferred to microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections with the cooperation of Sister Janet Gallup in August 1996. Included in the collection is a Financial Record, 1898-1909, which contains patient accounts, employees wages, altar bread and stamps register, and records of the arrival and departure of the Sisters; a Boarders Register, 1864-1894; Marine Patient Register, 1858-1898; Orphans and Domestic Help Register, 1855-1889; and two Patient Registers, 1855-1908, which are indexed. These registers contain such information as the patient's age, country of nativity, religion, parents' names, and patient's date of death, if applicable. Interestingly, the Patient Register of 1855-1889 contains the names of several Confederate soldiers, no doubt prisoners of war, who were admitted to the hospital. Also included in the collection are forty-four (44) Patient Account Registers which contain, in most cases, the patient's birthplace, age, and residence. Researchers should note that St. Vincent Medical Center has retained the copyright and literary rights to all original records, as well as any microfilmed versions, negatives, and reproductions, of whatever type, of such records. All requests for duplicate copies, with the exception of paper photocopies, require written authorization from St. Vincent Medical Center.
