|Title||MS 1178 - Gaugler/Wise Family Collection|
|Introduction||The Gaugler, Wise Family Collection of one linear foot is comprised of correspondence, legal documents, literary productions, printed materials, genealogical data, and photographs dating from 1839 to 1971. The collection was donated to the Center for Archival Collections in June 2012 by Linda Glaviano, granddaughter of John E. Wise and Ethel Gaugler Wise. The finding aid was prepared by Eric Honneffer December 6, 2013.|
|Scope and Content||The Gaugler, Wise Family Collection contains primarily clippings, printed materials, and some photographs relevant to these Bellevue, Ohio area families and their community. Of particular interest is some historic information about Simon Peter Gaugler a Bellevue photographer. (See the Charlotte Buyer Collection MS-392 which houses some original photographic images of Bellevue possibly attributed to S.P. Gaugler). Mr. Gaugler’s daughter, Edith, married Frederick Schanck of Georgia. Schanck family genealogies predominate in the collection.|
This is comprised primarily of Wise and Arnold family letters and two from Irene Forsythe, a missionary.
Literary works primarily include Gaugler and Schanck family genealogies and a small travel diary apparently kept by John E. Wise.
These documents include some early birth records i.e. a fraktur for S. P. Gaugler’s birth, wills, property deeds, and the like.
These include news clippings, programs, booklets, certificates pertinent to the family and the history of Bellevue, Ohio.
Most of the photographs are of family members taken in Bellevue, Ohio. Also included are a couple of Gaugler-Heal photographs.
