Text | This week has not been particularly eventful since I haven’t really left my house. I deleted all of the social media apps on my phone this week and began learning guitar. Learning a new instrument with YouTube videos has proven to be much harder than I expected. On the contrary, living without social media has been much easier than I expected it to be. I miss feeling as connected to my friends as I did with Snapchat, but I have found a sense of freedom in not feeling obligated to use my phone every second of the day. My grandparents are heading home to Pemberville from Florida in a couple days, much to my mother’s dismay. My uncle and mom tried to convince my grandparents to remain at their house in Florida, but my grandma is eager to return home. They will be driving for as long as they can and eventually sleeping in their car at a rest area to avoid staying in a hotel. My mom is going to go grocery shopping for them later this week so that they can remain completely quarantined for two weeks after their return. This week I cleaned my room and vacuumed my floor. I have also spent way too much time watching “Glee” for the first time. On Thursday evening, I went for a two-mile run with my dad on the bike trail by our house. My sister and I biked around our town playing “Pokemon Go” on Friday afternoon. As she pointed out, almost everyone in town was doing yard work because the weather was nice for the first time since the quarantine began. I played bingo with Falcons After Dark online Friday night, and it was fun, but I did not win. My dad went out for groceries this afternoon wearing a bizarre outfit that consisted of gloves and bandanas because the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that everyone leaving the house wear some type of cloth face covering now. The weather in Wood County seems to be improving, so my family spent our Saturday bringing our outdoor furniture out of the barn and cleaning off the chairs and tables. We also purchased palm branches and colored Palm Sunday pictures to leave on our friends’ porches tonight in honor of Palm Sunday being tomorrow. It definitely does not feel like Holy Week or the Easter season right now, but all we can do is make the best of an unfortunate and strange situation. |
