Title | Trip to the Grocery Store |

Description | Friday was beautiful. As I walked to the Kroger grocery store, I spotted this group playing frisbee outside the Doyt Stadium. I didn’t approach them, but I’ve found myself wondering why they were out playing? Perhaps they assumed that as long as they were 6 feet from each other, they wouldn't get it? Unfortunately word is that the virus can survive on plastic for a few days at least, so I don’t think it’s really adequate. I pray that they are safe. There were other groups I saw on my walk to the grocery too, though usually rather small, 2-5 people. They seemed merry. Before I got to campus, there was one rude driver at Speedway off of I-75 on Wooster Street with his windows down, who had an nasty smell from his vape emanating from his vehicle. At least the people on campus kept to their own groups, and gave strangers space. When I got to Kroger, many of the shoppers acting callously reminded me of my encounter at Speedway, though at least they didn’t stink of vapes. I shot people glares when they got close to me. As I eyed some lemon pączki in the clearance shelf of bread from a ways away, someone kindly gave me some space to look at the items. I wish more people were like that. At grocery stores now, it is interesting what is in stock and what is out of stock. Some of the nicer ramen brands were sold out, but I was still able to find the normal amount of navratan korma. Unpopular international food is still unpopular, but it is one of the few things that looks identical to before in the grocery stores. It is interesting to note my experience at Kroger compared to an earlier trip to Meijer. Kroger did not appear to have sanitized carts segregated from used ones, as Meijer did. Kroger’s new energy saving doors in the dairy section, which the old Meijer lacked, now seemed ominous. Both have new sneeze shields for the people working the register, which I appreciate, and I think the cashiers appreciate as well. I am happier than ever that there is now a foot crossing across I-75. |
