Bowling Green State University publications collection

This collection of publications was intentionally gathered to document the history of Bowling Green State University and its various academic colleges, departments and administrative units. It is made up of the primary serial publications of the university (including yearbooks, student newspapers, catalogs, commencement programs, newsletters, telephone directories, etc.) which have been individually cataloged as serial titles in the University Libraries catalog, as well as the "Pamphlet UA" (or "pUA") collection consisting of individual items cataloged under pUA local call numbers in the University Libraries catalog.

For additional bibliographic information on the publications contained within this collection, and to obtain the local call numbers by which to request original materials, researchers are encouraged to search for the applicable publication titles within the CAC's holdings in the University Libraries' catalog.

Brief descriptions of the publications contained within this collection are provided below:

Annual Catalog, 1914-present. Departmental introductions evolve as the departments grow. Faculty and department officers are often listed, sometimes with their areas of specialization. Criteria for courses and topics to be covered are included in the course listings.

BG News, 1920-present. Since 1920, the student newspaper has recorded changes in programs, activities of student organizations, carried obituaries of faculty, students, and staff, and reflected the tone of student life. In addition to the original physical copies of the BG News available at the CAC, the full run of the newspaper has also been digitized and is available online via the University Libraries' institutional repository ScholarWorks. An online BG News index is also available for most of the run of the newspaper, and a card index at the CAC supplements it.

Key Yearbook, 1918-2008. Since 1918, The Key yearbook has carried photographs of faculty, students, buildings, and activities on campus along with a brief synopsis of special events. In addition to the original physical copies of The Key available at the CAC, the full run of the yearbook has also been digitized and is available online via the University Libraries' institutional repository ScholarWorks.

Commencement Programs, 1914-present. Lists all degrees granted to individuals, commencement speakers, etc.

The Monitor, 1973 - 2012. A university employee newsletter published since 1973 containing information about faculty, administrative, and classified staff, events, and policies. In addition to the original physical copies of the Monitor available at the CAC, the full run of the newsletter has also been digitized and is available online via the University Libraries' institutional repository ScholarWorks.

Alumni Magazine. Published under various titles since 1942, usually includes longer feature articles about departments, faculty, alumni, programs, buildings, etc. In addition to the original physical copies of the Alumni Magazine available at the CAC, issues dating from 1942 to April 1977 have also been digitized and are available online via the University Libraries' digital collections and exhibits portal.

Student Handbooks. Including particular handbooks geared to women students or freshmen, these handbooks discuss campus living, rules, and organizations.

Directories. Telephone directories and other lists of students and faculty.

Other university publications. Including alumni and department newsletters, campus maps, dedication programs, official policies, correspondence, and financial records. These publications have been individually cataloged under pUA local call numbers in the University Libraries catalog.
