Abstract
Photocopy of typed transcript of Isaac W. Leonard's Civil War diary, Jan. 1-Sept. 26, 1863, kept during Leonard's service as a corporal in Company H of the 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. A manuscript poem, "Nature's music," penned by Leonard in 1860 is included, along with a typed transcript of the poem.

Biographical / Historical
Isaac W. Leonard (1839-1862) enlisted in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry while in his senior year at Mt. Union College, Alliance, Ohio. He was wounded and taken prisoner in the Battle of Stone River, Tennessee, Dec. 31, 1862. According to the Ohio Roster, he died Jan. 28, 1863 while prisoner in Jackson, Miss., from wounds received in battle.
