The Defiance Broadcasting Company collection

The Defiance Broadcasting Company Collection consists of records and information dating from 1966 to 1984. The bulk of these records document the time period during which the company attempted to obtain a construction permit and license from the FCC for a new radio station. The collection, however, is severely weakened by the lack of such documentation as meeting minutes, annual reports and other business records which would provide more detailed information on the operations of the company.

The extensive amount of subject files which contain articles, brochures, and programs of interest to the DBC do provide some insights into the company's mission. They also are an excellent source of information on developments in radio equipment, programming technology, business techniques, and the radio industry during this period.

The large number of audio recordings in the collection provide a fine source of information concerning programs and formatting styles offered during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

DBC Correspondence; 1983-1984 (scattered); arranged chronologically. Includes correspondence between DBC and John Tierney, Alan Campbell, and Howard Lieberman concerning FCC and employment application materials.

DBC Subject Files; 1966-1984 (scattered); arranged alphabetically by topic. Includes information collected by DBC on various topics, organizations, and issues important to the radio industry and DBC in particular.

Court Records; 1981-1983; arranged chronologically. Includes information, transcripts, evidence, and other legal documents involving the DBC and its court battles.

FCC Application; 1980-1984; arranged alphabetically by topic. Includes information on DBC application to FCC for construction permits, including formal application, rough drafts, exhibit lists for hearings, transcripts of hearings.

FCC Rulings; 1977-1982; arranged alphabetically by topic. Includes FCC rulings on a variety of issues, copies of rules and regulations of the FCC.

Financial Records-DBC; 1975-1982; arranged chronologically. Includes construction estimates, application and brochure for BancOhio loans, Williams County OEDP report and program projection, copies of financial proposals, articles on tax issues, sales receipts.

Positive Prints; undated. Includes newspaper photos of local people, public witnesses, community leaders and a folder of pictures of Bellefontaine.

Programs/Formats; 1979-1982, undated. Includes samples of programs and formats offered by various formatting companies.
