Scope and Contents
The Alexei and Cory Panshin Papers consist of research and manuscript materials for published and unpublished works by Alexei and Cory Panshin. Of particular interest to researchers may be manuscript and research materials realted to Alexei's 1968 Nebula Award-winning novel Rite of Passage, manuscript and research materials related to his writings on Robert Heinlein, and manuscripts co-written by Alexei and Cory.

Biographical / Historical
Alexei Panshin (1940-2022) is an American science fiction writer and critic. He began writing in the science fiction fan community as a short story writer, later expanding into novels. His first novel, Rite of Passage, was published in 1968 and won the Nebula Award for Best Science Fiction Novel. He married Cory Panshin (1947- ) in 1969, and the two have collaborated on several critical and non-fiction works, most notably The World Beyond the Hill: Science Fiction and the Quest for Transcendence, which won both the Locus Award and Hugo for best non-fiction book when it was published in 1990.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The materials in this collection were transferred to the Browne Popular Culture Library by Alexei and Cory Panshin in a series of donations between 1969 and 1975. Additional materials were purchased by the Browne Popular Culture Library in 1987.
