Scope and Contents
The J. J. Bhatt Papers consist of original typed and handwritten manuscripts of Dr. Bhatt's fiction, poetry, and non-fiction writings on philosophy, as well as other research materials. The collection also includes a large collection of materials related to Dr. Bhatt's career as a professor of oceanography, including class materials, articles written by Dr. Bhatt, and textbooks authored by or with contributions by Dr. Bhatt.
This collection is partially processed. 8 boxes have been processed and documented in the inventory; the remaining 17 boxes have not been processed. The unprocessed materials consist of 10 record cartons and 1 oversize flat box of materials related to Dr. Bhatt's academic career in oceanography, as well as 7 boxes of manuscript materials related to Dr. Bhatt's poetry and non-fiction writings on philosophy, some personal papers, and other manuscript and research materials yet to be determined. of The processed and unprocessed materials are available to researchers upon request.
Biographical / Historical
Jagdish (Jack) J. Bhatt is an author and a retired professor of earth and marine sciences. He taught for more than forty-five years at various colleges in the United States. Dr. Bhatt was a doctorate research fellow at the University of Wales, Cardiff and served as a post-doctorate research scientist at Stanford University.
Bhatt is the author of 60 publications including 18 books across scientific and literary fiction fields. Bhatt credits excellent educational and professional opportunities and an international up bringing during his formative years in India, the US and Britain for shaping his worldview. He says that "I am indebted to many people who showed me the path."
Dr. Bhatt hopes that his literary works will speak to younger generations to empower them as members of an enlightened society. Bhatt's books aim to offer a deeper understanding and insight into our world and our future. He says that his writings have been chiefly driven by his passion to explore the Socratic idea that "the unexamined life is not worth living."
