The Jack H. Bailey Papers consist of manuscript materials for his novel The Icarus Complex, in both copyedited and galley form.

Biographical / Historical

Born in 1923 in Grants Pass, Oregon, Jack H. Bailey served in the Navy during World War II, enlisting at the age of 17 and rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1950, he moved to Los Angeles, California, to attend a now-defunct writer's school in Hollywood. He enrolled at the University of Southern California receiving a B.A. degree in English in 1953. Also in 1953, he married Wanda, a fellow student majoring in geology. They have a son and daughter. He worked as a technical writer in the aerospace industry for 16 years.

Jack H. Bailey wrote two novels, The Number Two Man (1968) and The Icarus Complex (1972).

Jack H. Bailey died in 2010.
