Fred Cook Papers
Collection Organization
The collection consists primarily of bibliographic manuscripts generated by Fred Cook and others, as well as research materials used by Fred Cook in his writing. Additional items include pulp magazine covers, science fiction convention programs and magazine subscription correspondence.
The intense indexing work done by Fred Cook will be of interest to researchers of pulp magazines, as well as those looking to understand how these types of bilbiographies were generated prior to the internet age.
The first three boxes are record center cartons, and the fourth is an index card box.
An inventory has not been completed for this collection, however the materials are available for researchers to access. A broad outline follows:
Box 1: Indexes for individual pulp magazines and publishers. Most are filed by magazine title, however some are grouped by publisher (i.e. Fiction House, Arkham House)
Box 2: Continuation of pulp magazine indexes from box 1, as well as copies of Bronze Shadows, the fanzine published by Fred Cook
Box 3: Indexes and bibliographies created and obtained from other writers, science fiction convention programs, pulp magazine covers, and some correspondence.
Box 4: Index cards used by Fred Cook in his bibliographic work.
